a Commercial Consulting Manager

I'm Matt. As a member of our Commercial Consulting team, my role involves supporting the growth of our pipeline, developing strategic client relationships and helping to shape consulting offers.

I work across the NHS and sometimes local authorities, usually with supply chain teams, and provide specialist project support in areas such as finance, automation and of course consulting. I am actively involved in shaping and writing bids, navigating two primary routes to market - either by responding to public tenders or by leveraging existing client relationships to proactively identify and develop new consulting opportunities.

What led you to this role?

I’ve worked in consulting roles across healthcare and other sectors, and when I heard about this opportunity, I was immediately drawn to it. It offered a chance to return to the healthcare space - something I’m passionate about - while also joining a growing business with strong back-office support to enable real impact. During the interview process I had the opportunity to speak with a few of the current team who were all very articulate and passionate about what they do and the future plans of the team which really appealed to me.

What do you enjoy about your role?

I enjoy working in a consulting role as I get to work with a wide range of clients on diverse, short-term, and output-driven projects. It brings constant variety, fresh challenges, and the chance to collaborate with different people all the time. This means that I also get to see the results of what we’ve delivered which can be very rewarding. For example, working with a client to redesign their target operating model and then witnessing the successful implementation and the positive impact it has on their business is one of the most rewarding aspects of the role, it can be quite transformational the changes we’re supporting.

What do you think makes NHS SBS different from other companies in the industry?

I think we are unique in our position in the market and as a public/private venture and our consultancy offering really enhances our other service offerings. What sets us apart is that we don’t just hand over playbooks - we roll up our sleeves and help implement real solutions. We’re actively involved in making things happen, not just advising from the sidelines.
