I've always been a Reserve, including some time on Full Time Reserve Service, so I don't really have experience of the full transition personally.
I've assisted a number of individuals in my time with the company and the main experience of people seems to be realising there is greater freedom of action in the organisation than they've previously experienced in the military.
How does Sopra Steria support you in your role of being a Reservist?
Sopra Steria provides additional leave to carry out the annual training periods which is of great support. HR processes are geared to actively support reserve service and any potential mobilisations that may occur. There's also a strong Armed Forces Network that provides support and engagement, which includes a number of events. Help is always a short chat away.
What advice would you offer to veterans starting their civil careers to help them succeed?
Take the opportunities as they present themselves. Engage with others outside of your immediate team to build a strong network of people who can assist, and who you can also assist in return. Join the various support networks that cover a wider range of areas and share your experiences.
