Hear from our
Low-Code No-Code team

How do we use Low-Code/No-Code technologies?

Low-Code/No-Code technologies enable business applications to be built with minimal to no hand-crafted coding. The technology platform is often cloud based, meaning the time to market/operation can be extremely rapid. At Sopra Steria, we use ServiceNow to build bespoke applications from the ground up. We also implement ServiceNow with pre-worked modules that provide capability in areas such as IT Service Management, Enterprise Asset Management, HR and Strategic Portfolio Management.

Our ServiceNow Practice at Sopra Steria

We provide end-to-end solutions to make our clients more competitive by combining in-depth knowledge of a wide range of business sectors and innovative technologies with a fully collaborative approach. We have a ServiceNow Practice working across many of our business areas such as; Aerospace, Defence & National Security, Consulting, and Government & Transport. It’s an area of expertise that is growing rapidly and we’d like to share stories from some members of our Low-Code No-Code team within the Practice.

Meet Ronnie, Ian and Shanila

Ronnie

Business Analysis Manager
When did you join Sopra Steria and why?
I joined in February 2016. Sopra Steria was really ramping up the ServiceNow practice in Norway at the time – we’re still growing – and it seemed they had a lot of exciting customers in the pipeline.

How did you start your career?
Coming from a background as both a chef and with a degree in mechanical engineering, one wouldn’t think the software industry is a logical place to end up. However, back in the 90s, I was out of a job for two months, and more or less accidentally offered a temporary assignment as an IT Instructor. One thing led to another, and I ended up working 10 years doing classroom trainings both nationally and in Europe. I also discovered I was quite good at talking to people and showcasing various software tools. I landed a job as a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) “expert” within a software development company, and in 2011 was asked to look at what ServiceNow was, and how that could benefit our customers.

Have you had any development opportunities since being at Sopra Steria?
Every day in Sopra Steria I learn something new, both because ServiceNow constantly evolves, and you must keep up. But also because all my colleagues, both those in my project teams and others, are always more than happy to share knowledge.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
The freedom to explore all the nice and wonderful functions and abilities within ServiceNow, and to showcase that to our customers, as well as the ability to work across borders with international customers. I'm also trusted to do my job without my manager checking on me at all times.

Sopra Steria is recognised as a Great Place to Work®, what do you personally think makes it so great?
Everyone loves to share, both on a daily basis, and in all the various communities we have. And so much is invested into developing all employees, through training, but also through various initiatives which support us in our spare time. In Norway, we have lots of special interest clubs that get partial funding for things like going to the movies, working out or going go-kart racing.

Head of Aerospace, Defence & Security's Low-Code No-Code Practice
When did you join Sopra Steria and why?
I joined Sopra Steria in 2014 for a second time having worked here previously in the 1990s. I rejoined because I knew it was a fair and equitable place to work with many like-minded individuals.

How did you start your career?
I started my career as a Real-Time Systems Software Engineer and have remained in a technical career for most of my working life, spending most of it as an Architect in leadership roles.

What do you enjoy about your role?
I am enjoying the challenge of building the low-code no-code practice, interacting with new joiners and watching them develop their own careers.

Have you had any development opportunities since being at Sopra Steria?
Sopra Steria places a great emphasis on training and personal development and there have been plenty of opportunities for me to learn new skills.

What technologies do you get the opportunity to work with in your role?
I focus on Low Code No Code (LCNC) and ServiceNow is one of the principal platforms that we use. LCNC demands integration with other applications and services, so this frequently provides me with exposure to organisational systems of record and hosting services, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Azure.

What is unique about the ServiceNow projects at Sopra Steria at the moment?
We are involved in a number of very unusual ServiceNow projects which challenge conventional implementations and call for a broad range of skills to be successful.

Sopra Steria is recognised as a Great Place to Work®, what do you personally think makes it so great?
Sopra Steria is a fair and equitable place to work, exemplified by the number of years individuals stay here.

Low-Code Lead
When did you join Sopra Steria and why?
I joined in June 2022. The interviewers were very personable and I felt they brought to life the Sopra Steria culture and values.

How did you start your career?
I started my career in Technology Management Consulting 6 years ago after graduating from university. I felt drawn to consulting and the possibilities of solving or impacting real life challenges through technology and digital innovation.
Over the years, I realised my strengths and affinity for business development and pre-sales specific work, and naturally shifted into my ideal role that allows me to practice both.

What kind of projects are you currently involved in?
My work falls within the areas of Digital Transformation and Application Innovation.

What do you enjoy about your role?
I enjoy the learning and networking – my role requires me to constantly stay up to date on what’s new and constantly work with others to develop strategic plans and ideas.

Have you had any development opportunities since being at Sopra Steria?
Since joining Sopra Steria, I've had the opportunity to develop my ServiceNow understanding through training. This has recently helped me deliver thought leadership across our client base around the art of the possible within the ServiceNow Platform.

What do you think makes Sopra Steria different from other companies in the industry?
Our people and culture – a number of professionals across Sopra Steria have first-hand experience with the challenges faced by our customers, having worked across those respective industries - this means we are best placed to deliver solutions and services that respond directly to those challenges.

Sopra Steria is recognised as a Great Place to Work®, what do you personally think makes it so great?
Simply, the people and work-life balance.

Michael joined us as a Principal ServiceNow Solutions Architect. Here's how he found his first few weeks...

I first heard about the role when I was approached directly by a member of the Sopra Steria recruitment team. The hybrid working structure and the office being close to me really appealed, as I have family commitments. Being able to support on the school run has been great.

This has been the best onboarding process I have been through when starting with a new company. It did feel a bit strange not going into an office on day one, but I was made to feel very welcome, and people
reached out to me to check everything was ok.

Everyone here has a can-do attitude, all trying to do
their best for our customers in a very friendly atmosphere. My biggest challenge so far has been understanding the company/project structure. Once I have that, it’ll help me understand where I can add the most value.

When I’m up to speed, I look forward to helping build a Centre of Expertise for the ServiceNow practice in the UK.
